JHS Remote Questions

Q. Why the change?

A.  Citrix and JHS Remote are very similar, in fact Citrix is built "on top of" the technology used for JHS Remote.  Due to licensing and security concerns, we are removing the Citrix "middle-man" since the technology for JHS Remote is more than sufficient for they way we use it at JHS.

Q.  What features will I lose with JHS Remote vs Citrix?

A.  None.  Citrix has lots of bells and whistles, however we do not make use of them.  For our purposes, JHS Remote will work virtually identically.

Q.  Will I see any benefits to JHS Remote vs Citrix?

A.  Yes, first and foremost, the client software required to use JHS Remote is included with every copy of Windows and is kept up to date as part of Windows in general.  This will reduce/eliminate the need to download, install, and maintain the Citrix client software.  This also means that if you are using another person's computer, you will not need to install new software on their computer since the software required to connect to JHS Remote is installed on all Windows 2000/XP/Vista/2003 computers right from the factory.

Q.  What's the difference between the "Web version" and the "Desktop Shortcut version" links?

A.  The web version will give you access via any Internet Explorer browser and is generally intended for "occasional" use or for use on a computer that you don't typically use regularly (although nothing keeps you from using it as much as you want).  The Desktop Shortcut version is a shortcut that contains the information you need to connect to JHS Remote regularly (i.e. from your office or home computer that you use everyday).  If you intend to regularly use this computer to connect to JHS Remote, right-click on the link for the Desktop Shortcut version (on the employee resource web page), and choose to "Save As" to your desktop.  From that point on, you can just double-click the JHS Remote shortcut on your desktop and log in without going to the JHS website first.
