The Cole Porter song, “Don’t FenceMe In”, captures the essence of Janet’s philosophy. Raised with quarter horses and a winner of many horse shows, Janet developed a love of the outdoors that stays strong today. While on the surface it may seem strange for a cowgirl to embrace the confines of a CPA’s office, her skill at commanding a quarter horse has served her well in herding the eclectic crew of JHS into meetings and keeping them focused.
Janet’s knowledge of tax planning is unsurpassed but this foundation in statutory detail and logic often gives way to flights of fancy about horses. In her heart she knows that Mr. Ed, the talking horse. is a Hollywood trick, but she often spends time trying to get her horse to say just a word or two. She has even undertaken a re-write of the book Animal Farm to introduce the perspective of a horse with in-depth knowledge of agricultural accounting.
It is easy to spot Janet’s office. It is the only office without guest chairs and the commanding presence of a hitching rail. This makes her feel comfortable but the lack of chairs has a positive business benefit. Meetings in Janet’s office tend to be short and focused on the issues.
