Laura is a CPA tax specialist, whose expertise in tax regulations is only matched by her skill at Ping Pong. Laura’s passion for Ping Pong is evident in her refusal to call it by its familiar name as she makes references to Whiff-Whaff, the onomatopoeic description of the game that was widely used in mid-nineteenth century England. When asked why she prefers Whiff-Whaff, Laura says, “This is a game of action, passion and aggression. Whiff-Whaff sounds like you are hitting something. Doesn't that make you feel good?”
This competitive, in your face approach that she also uses to defend her client’s position on accounting issues, was honed in her home town of Everett, Washington, cheering for the Everett Silvertips. The fact that the Silvertips claim the ‘loudest house’ in the Western Hockey League is in no small measure due to Laura's vocal contribution.
Laura’s thirst for excitement and fascination for the word “musher” drew her to Alaska. She had some notion that the term was related to a new dance movement. Not one to suffer disappointment for any length of time, she soon became an ardent fan of the Iditarod Race, although in the second year the race officials asked her to move back a few hundred feet from the starting line because her cheering was unsettling the dogs.
Her passionate commitment to an idea, her rapid reflexes honed by Whiff-Whaff, her fearlessness in the face of danger and her love of cold and challenging climates has made her the ideal person to take point in the frigid and unpredictable negotiations with the IRS.
