Recruiting activities are managed by a partner in the firm and on-campus interviews include at least one partner. Our goal is to dedicate the time in the process to ensure we are hiring capable people that will fit in with our culture. The process of becoming a member of the JHS team typically begins with a formal on-campus interview. However, you may contact us directly to provide your resume and request an interview. If you choose this approach, please email the Recruiter directly. STEP 1 - Think About Your FutureSeriously think about the path you want to take with your career. Do you want to be in public accounting or in industry? If you decide that public accounting is where you want to be, you have additional decisions to make. For example, what type of firm do I want to work for, do I want to do tax or audit, do I want to do non-profit work, etc. There are a lot of differences between firms and the types of services they offer their clients. Research the firms where you want to interview, using websites and discussions with career center personnel. Try to get answers to as many of your questions as you can. STEP 2 - Sign Up for an InterviewSeriously think about the path you want to take with your career. Do you want to be in public accounting or in industry? STEP 3 - The Office VisitThe primary purpose of the office visit is for you to learn more about JHS’s culture and the people that work for us as well as our opportunity to sell you on JHS. During your visit to our office, you will have an opportunity to meet with other firm partners and managers. You will tour the office and enjoy lunch with some of our staff accountants. Shortly after your office visit, you will receive a letter from us extending a job offer or indicating we are unable to offer you a position at this time. STEP 4 - The DecisionNow the ball is in your court. You get to make the tough decision of where you want to begin your career. Take your time to make sure you make the right decision and make sure all of your questions have been answered. Be sure to communicate the timing of your decision with the firm. We understand that you may be expecting additional offers. At any time during the recruiting process you are welcome to call or email us with questions about our firm or our people. We understand that questions will arise after your interview or office visit, and we want to make sure that you get answers to all of your questions. Your First YearDuring your first year with JHS, you will be exposed to both audit and tax engagements as well as other facets of our business including consulting projects. By the end of that year, you may be ready to perform the majority of engagements on your own. Travel time will vary according to your assignments. Overnight travel is rare and will be discussed with you before you are assigned to these engagements. JHS will provide you with ongoing training in a variety of areas and in a variety of ways to improve upon your job skills and promote career development. We will also allow you to use your time to prepare for the CPA exam and will pay for time off to take it. Your continuing professional education will include many hours of training in your first twelve months, and you will receive a laptop computer, fully equipped with the software you will need in your job assignments. You will be matched with a mentor—usually a partner or a manager—who will help you define career objectives, find ways to meet them and address your concerns.
